Glenroy College in the News
Glenroy College’s Tariq brothers have been showcased on ABC news! As hundreds of thousands of students across Australia find out their year 12 results this week, the Tariq brothers are receiving theirs too — all three of them at the same time. Umer, Ali and Danial are not triplets, and none of them are twins either. But the brothers aged 17, 19 and 20 have all completed high school this year after migrating from Pakistan just two years ago.

To all our families and school community
Welcome back to another year of valuable learning at Glenroy College. We welcome all of our Year 7 students as well as students who have transferred in from other schools, States and countries.
The year has started on a positive note with the introduction of our Positive Behaviour Support (PBS for short). We planned for this during 2018 and decided on the use of PBS Values recognition slips as a way of acknowledging students who are actively demonstrating our College values of Achievement, Respect, Integrity and Teamwork. The colour coding of the values was decided by the 2018 Student Leadership Team. Students are handed these slips by staff and are placed in the sub-schools by the students. Each week we have a ‘lucky draw’ and each term and semester there will be special awards for students with the highest tally of recognition slips.
All students have now been issued with their locker and Planner. Students must have a lock on their locker and combination locks may be purchased from the College. Planners must be used when students are out of class, to record homework, due dates for classwork and important dates for events and notices. Planners can also be used by parents to write short notes to staff, if needed.
Breakfast Club will continue on Thursday mornings in the Café from 8.15am-starting 21 February. Students are welcome to come in to the Café and sit to enjoy a hot breakfast of a cheese toastie and juice. Student leaders and parents are also welcome to come along and assist in the running of this activity. Contact Lidia Tizian at the College if you are interested in helping out.
Parents are invited to attend our College Council AGM on Tuesday 26 March and consider joining the team for 2019-2020. Information can be found in our first newsletter of 2019.
We have education information sessions for parents over Term 1, including VCE information on Thurs 13 February and Maths Pathways on Wednesday 20 March. We also have our Alumni Careers Pathways sessions for all Year 12 students on Wednesday 27 March. Information on all these events will be provided to students as well as on our website. Harmony Day on Thursday 21 March is a day to celebrate and welcome diversity and difference. All our community are encouraged to wear orange on this day.

Technology for Learning
Our core business is improving student learning outcomes. Our teachers plan and work together to develop curriculum using technology. As we move to more online and innovative educational programs it is very important that your child has the right tool for learning. We ask that you ensure your child has a laptop to bring to school at the commencement of term one. We are very pleased that Learning With Technologies (LWT) will offer a payment plan to Glenroy College families so they can make a great start to their learning in 2019.
Learning With Technologies is our current provider for BYOD providing Acer TravelMate B118, Lenovo 11e and 11e Yoga as recommended preferred devices. Purchasing through LWT means that laptops are provided with a Warranty and Accidental Damage Protection (ADP). This means that for a small fee, laptops can be repaired under warranty. LWT can also offer finance options to allow parents to make periodic payments if needed.
