Career, Pathways Advice & Support
Student Careers and Pathways is managed by Penny Moffat. Students who require support or advice can arrange an appointment to discuss their pathway with Penny from Tuesday to Thursday.
Glenroy College offers individual advice, assistance and counselling to all students on pathway options. We offer assistance to students by encouraging them to explore their strengths and interests which are best suited to, and guide their subject choices accordingly. The Careers room has a wide range of current information and material for students to access. This includes both tertiary education (TAFE), University (Australia wide), training and employment.
The school tracks student’s choices in the year after they leave school so we can assess how successful we have been in launching them into their next career stage.
All students at Glenroy College complete a Career Action Plan. The college has purchased a program called WIRL Career to assist students in gathering their explorations, goals, achievements, strengths, likes and dislikes to create their Career Action Plan.
Students complete a Career Quiz, this provides the student with a report on career suggestions. Students can then watch video segments with insights and tips from young people working in the suggested fields.
Year 11 students undertake the “Real industry job interview program”. This program assists students with work readiness, developing job search skills, resume writing, job applications and interviewing skills. The program is delivered as part of the school’s curriculum throughout a series of guided lesson plans and culminates in a face-to-face interview with a local volunteer employer.
