Academic Extension

Students are encouraged to challenge themselves through a variety of programs designed to extend learning and foster curiosity. Opportunities include:

  • STEM Centre of Excellence (SCOE) partnerships connecting students to authentic science and technology experiences.
  • The Merri-bek Innovators Program, where students collaborate on real-world community and sustainability projects.
  • Debating and public speaking, strengthening communication and critical-thinking skills.
  • The Centre for Higher Education Studies (CHES), offered from Year 10, students can access specialised electives, including Algorithmics and VCE Extended Investigation.
  • Targeted extension and enrichment within each learning area to encourage high achievement and creative problem-solving.

These programs nurture independent, motivated learners who are inspired to think deeply and act with purpose.

Sport 

Physical activity and school spirit are central to life at Glenroy College. Students can participate in:

  • Whole-school events, including the Swimming and Athletics Carnivals, where students proudly represent their House.
  • Inter-school sports competitions through School Sport Victoria in basketball, futsal, AFL, netball, volleyball, tennis, table tennis, soccer and more.
  • The Melbourne Victory Soccer Program, which develops skills, teamwork and discipline through professional coaching.
  • The Glenroy College AFL Academy, where classes will run as full-year electives in year 9 and 10, progressing into year 11 from 2027. Students will undertake excursions to elite facilities, study umpiring and coaching certifications, undertake strength and conditioning coaching, and participate in regular training and competitions. Students will then have the opportunity to explore career pathways in Sports Management, Sport Science and Fitness in year 11 and 12 as part of their VCE or VCEVM.

These programs foster fitness, confidence, teamwork and school pride.

Music and the Arts

Music is an integral part of our creative curriculum. All Year 7 students have access to free instrumental lessons and can join bands, ensembles or vocal groups. Our professional tutors and teachers nurture talent and creativity, supporting students to perform confidently at school and community events. 

Through music, visual art, dance and drama, students learn to express themselves, collaborate and celebrate diverse cultures.

Student Leadership and Voice

At Glenroy College, we recognise that the leaders of tomorrow are in our classrooms today.

Our Student Leadership Program empowers students to represent their peers, contribute to decision-making and lead positive change. Leadership development is embedded through all aspects of school life, building confidence, empathy and a sense of responsibility.
