Orientation

Glenroy College welcomes our future Year 7’s with an engaging two day orientation program, designed to introduce new students to the vibrant and nurturing environment of our school. The first day of orientation is dedicated to helping students familiarise themselves with the campus through guided tours, participation in fun activities, and opportunities to start forming friendships. It’s a day of excitement and discovery, aimed at making every student feel comfortable and connected to their new school community.

The following day focuses on the academic and extracurricular life at Glenroy College. Students will meet their teachers, learn about the curriculum, and explore the wide range of clubs and activities available. This comprehensive orientation program not only acquaints students with the school but also aims to ignite their enthusiasm for learning and personal development. Additionally, a special session for parents is organised to discuss our educational philosophy, fostering a strong partnership between the school and families for the holistic development of our students.

Transition to High School

Transitioning into high school is a significant milestone, and at Glenroy College, we understand the importance of a smooth and supportive pathway for our Year 7 students. This includes orientation days, a robust mentorship system, and ongoing academic support tailored to each student as an individual. Our dedicated team ensures that students receive the guidance and resources they need to confidently navigate this new chapter in their educational journey.

Beyond academics, we place a strong emphasis on community and belonging. Students are encouraged to engage in a variety of activities, including sports and clubs, fostering a sense of connection and personal growth. This helps students settle into high school life, and nurtures their resilience and a sense of belonging within the Glenroy College family. Through these initiatives we aim to provide a positive and enriching start to their high school experience.

Mulltiple Teachers and Classroom Movement

At Glenroy College, students are introduced to a broader range of subjects, each taught by specialised teachers. This means that students may engage with up to 12 different educators in the first semester, with potential changes in the second semester as they explore new subjects. This variety enriches their interpersonal academic experience, whilst also establishing more movement around the campus, and building their skills in time management and organisation, a notable change from the primary school setting.

A Faster Pace

When transitioning from Primary school to year 7, students will quickly notice the faster pace of high school life! The environment is dynamic, where each class covers substantial learning material, making the days feel busier. It's crucial for students to establish strong routines early on. Repeated absences can lead to students feeling overwhelmed, and falling behind in their coursework. While the school offers support to catch up, preventing such situations is always preferable. Regular attendance and staying engaged with classes significantly reduce anxiety, and is crucial in supporting your student’s academic performance. Parents can assist by minimising additional holidays, discretionary appointments, and encouraging and supporting attendance, ensuring students maintain a sense of control and are keeping up with the fast-paced learning environment.
